Managing Oracle Applications

Oracle Applications support critical business processes in areas such as Financials, ERP, and SCM-all components of the Oracle E-Business suite. The Oracle Applications support team, consisting of applications, databases, network, and storage administrators, has the critical role of ensuring that any interruption to service is resolved before the business suffers.

Oracle Applications are supported by and communicate with a multitude of database instances, application servers, and web servers as well as many other components. All of these components work together to serve thousands of processes, forms, users, and transactions; all of them connect to Oracle Applications from different geographical locations; and all are expected to have high availability and fast response times. To understand the nature of performance losses in Oracle Applications and to resolve them effectively, the support team needs deep visibility into transactions, users, forms, program, locations, and business functions, and an understanding of how they are tied to the performance loss. Precise for Oracle Applications continually monitors Oracle Applications and the entire infrastructure that supporting them in order to:

Deliver alerts on performance degradation

Identify performance trends to forecast and prevent future performance degradations and business impact

Troubleshoot Oracle application performance incidents

Track down application transactions across the different tiers such as Web, Java EE, database and storage

Precise helps Oracle Applications support teams identify failing or underperforming components, prevent the most critical problems from impacting the business, and resolve the rest in a timely manner.

Oracle Applications Management “Know-How”

Precise for Oracle Applications automatically monitors and correlates activity in Oracle Applications transactions, following the transactions across all tiers and identifying the contribution of each tier to the transactions’ total response time. The Oracle Applications support team can immediately identify the slowest transactions using categories such as users, departments and locations. DBAs that support Oracle Applications can quickly identify the slowest SQL queries and understand which transactions and which users are issuing these inquiries to provide a highly qualified resolution. Precise for Oracle Applications provides automated performance analysis built on over 20 years of hands-on experience and a summary of all problems detected in every tier by order of importance. For every problem reported, Precise for Oracle Applications also provides actionable recommendations on how to solve it, helping every member of the Oracle Applications support team solve performance problems in the shortest time possible.

The MSC Malaysia Asia Pacific ICT Awards (MSC Malaysia APICTA), under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, provides a platform to stimulate creativity, innovation and excellence in ICT in Malaysia, benchmark Malaysian ICT products and
solutions, and to recognise outstanding achievements in ICT of students, technopreneurs, SMEs and organisations with operations in Malaysia.

This annual Awards Programme initiated in 1999 by the Multimedia Development Corporation, has evolved from being known as the Asia Pacific MSC IT & Telecommunications Awards (APMITTA) to MSC-Asia Pacific ICT Awards (MSC-APICTA) in 2002 when the international Awards Programme, APICTA, was launched. In line with the rebranding of the MSC (Multimedia Super Corridor) to MSC Malaysia in 2006 to reflect the MSC as a national ICT initiative, the Awards Programme is now known as MSC Malaysia APICTA.

The Winners of MSC Malaysia APICTA receive a trophy and certificate and the most outstanding Winner is selected for the Prime Minister Best of the Best Award. The Winners represent Malaysia at the international Asia Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) vying with the national award winners from other economies in the region for the APICTA Awards trophy in the various Award Categories.

Sixteen member economies – Australia, Brunei, China, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Macau, Malaysia, Myanmmar, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam—participate in this international initiative and take turns to host the annual Awards through a bidding process.

The Awards Programme also provides a unique opportunity and ideal environment for individuals and companies to gain local, regional and international exposure through on-going promotional activities.

Inventory levels hit historic lows in the depths of the recession, and even with some encouraging economic indicators today companies remain concerned about excess stockpiles. But it’s not enough to just maintain bare-bones levels—inadequate supplies could mean lost sales and opportunities for competitors to steal customers.

The answer is optimum inventory levels based on the latest data about markets and internal operations. “Balancing inventories means having systems in place that exchange information with each other, so if deviations in demand occur companies can quickly make the appropriate adjustments,” says John Murphy, Oracle’s senior director for transportation and logistics.

Three areas are key.

Forecasting: To accurately predict what they’re likely to sell, companies must analyze both historical data and real-time demand signals from across sales regions. Oracle’s Demantra solutions create forecasts based on this combination of information and automatically updates the outlooks as new information becomes available, so inventories and production lines stay up-to-date.

Execution: With forecasts in place it’s time to develop the right inventory strategy. Oracle Warehouse Management streamlines inventory management by plotting the most-efficient routes for order pickers to take when they’re traversing the warehouse. “Orders are filled more quickly, customer service improves, and safety stock information is kept more accurate,” Murphy explains.

Transportation: Oracle Transportation Management helps keep inventories at proper levels by managing an important part of the equation—the products and materials in transit that will impact overall forecasts and supplies. The application feeds information into and pulls data from Oracle’s Demantra solutions and Oracle Warehouse Management to stay in sync with the latest forecasts and warehouse data.

Supporting Quotes

“As we prepared to triple in size due to a recent acquisition, we knew we needed a flexible, scalable system to support us, so we decided to move forward with the upgrade to the Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1. Oracle helps us to manage our business efficiently and has provided a stable foundation for future growth,” said Carole Landgrebe, Senior Oracle Functional Analyst, Intelligrated, Inc.

“Upgrading to Oracle E-Business Suite 12.1 enables us to keep current with all legal and tax changes without having to adapt the software. It also creates an infrastructure that has helped us to increase our business growth and productivity,” said Rodrigo Matsumoto Varella, IT Manager, Staples do Brasil.

“Using Oracle Business Accelerators decreased system delivery time, cut implementation and support costs, accelerated user adoption, and delivered immediate value. It is a fantastic suite of tools that should be considered by any business engaged in implementing or re-implementing Oracle applications,” said Andrew Tolmie, Business Systems Analyst, Digital Cinema Media.

“Our ERP system may not have as high volume as a large enterprise, but it is just as complex. With Oracle On Demand and the Oracle Accelerate program, we were able to quickly launch an industry-leading ERP and almost immediately realize new efficiencies,” said S.K. Mohanty, Senior Director of Information Systems, OpenTV.

“With the Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 and Oracle Business Accelerators, we realized rapid improvement to our financial processes, including the ability to quickly roll up multiple profit and loss statements to accelerate our monthly close process,” said Charles Deskins, President, Zanett Commercial Solutions, Inc. “With Oracle Business Accelerators, we implemented the Oracle E-Business Suite in just six months, a process that would have taken three times as long using a traditional implementation methodology.”

“Midsized businesses do not have the money, time, and resources to ‘figure it out themselves,’ nor should they. Oracle continuously drives forward its value proposition, making it easier for small and medium-sized businesses to implement with low risk and continuously manage their application business processes. In other words, Oracle does what it does best, so we can do what we do best,” said Gary Marshall, Chief Information Officer, Taconic Farms, Inc. “The strategic value of Oracle is that it controls the effectiveness, performance, and efficiency of all elements of the stack—from the applications down to the silicon. Its price performance potential is much greater than anyone else’s in the marketplace. We see great benefits today and in the future with Oracle.”

“Miracle, a Gold level member in Oracle PartnerNetwork, is proud to be one of the first partners to implement with Oracle Business Accelerators at a client site in the Nordics,” said René H Madsen, Oracle EBS Leader, Miracle A/S, Denmark. “Why? Because there’s no project in our region that’s not suitable for Oracle Business Accelerators – none too complex, none too small and none too big. All future implementations will be based on this tool. We beat SAP and Microsoft on process, flexibility, speed, functionality and price.”
